TOKYO’S NEWEST HOTELS 2019

Welcome to TOKYO BEAT – special series by your trusty Tokyo Tourism Representative (New York Office) that aims to provide you with story ideas and inspiration. It’s shaping up to be another exciting year for new hotel openings, where thoughtful design, an attention to comfort, and forward-thinking amenities converge for impressive results. Here are some of the best that have recently opened, or will soon open in the coming months.

Inspired Concepts for an Evolving City Ginza’s MUJI HOTEL may be one of the most anticipated debuts, as this celebrated brand has taken the world by storm for countless lifestyle products that perfectly capture what makes them so essential. On April 4th, the doors will open to a hotel that aims to connect visitors not only to comfort, but to one of the most important essentials of all - food. MUJI will feature local growers and producers, and present foods both raw and prepared that will delight guests and create a greater connection to how ingredients are sourced in and around Tokyo. Not to mention, a flagship MUJI store and workshop promises insight into their products in a way heretofore unseen.

For generations, Tsukiji was synonymous with all things fish-related, but now Toyosu is taking the mantle. Unsurprisingly, this neighborhood is also quickly developing into a center for commerce, culture and, with the opening of Japan Airlines’ Hotel JAL City Tokyo Toyosu later in 2019, one of the best places to stay. Spacious, high-tech rooms, an athlete training facility, and upper floors of retail and dining, along with the attention to service made famous by Japan Airlines, are among its promised features. And it’s close in proximity to Olympic venues, so a perfect option for the 2020 Olympics.

New Twists on the Standards Billed as Tokyo’s first ‘smart hostel’, &AND HOSTEL – accommodations that embrace IoT (Internet of Things) – is one of the most interesting to pop up for budget travelers who are comfortable sharing communal quarters. Various technologies ranging from Qrio Smart Locks to phone controlled appliances and many other devices to enhance the stay, with prices that are wallet-friendly. Their newest locations in Asakusa and Minowa offer the most up-to-date experiences for this growing trend, and visitors can make a friend or two along the way.

Visitors curious about the capsule experience, but don’t want to give up the amenities of a full-service hotel, are urged to check out「an/other TOKYO」 Kyobashi, where 136 ‘Cabin’ capsule rooms complement a selection of 64 ‘Compartment’ single and double rooms. Opening in May, this is a fresh concept that aims to reimagine the capsule experience and bring it to the 21stcentury using elegant design and top-tier amenities devised by the famed hotel design firm JARVIS.

Finally, tourism and lodging seamlessly come together with the newly opened Ginza Capital Hotel Moegi, run by Hato Bus – the renowned tour bus company that has been providing tours of Tokyo for over 70 years. For guests looking for a perfect combination of budget, comfort and convenience, the local experience and insight that the company has to offer is perhaps second to none, and will undoubtedly get visitors the most out of their stay.
